When I visited my sister in Louisiana in March, I brought the boys home a tadpole that we found right outside her house. He survived the airplane ride home and we made a nice little home for him in a rubbermaid container. He started off looking like the picture above and then we watched as he transformed into a frog! It was so fun to watch. Coincidentally, Eliel's preschool class was also talking about the life cycle of a frog so it was fun to watch!
He went from having little stubs to getting some larger legs and the those legs grew pretty big. It was pretty fun to watch the changes that sometimes seemed to happen overnight!
Then seemingly one day, he grew front arms! When we woke up he didn't have them but by the end of the day, he did!
Suddenly, he changed very quickly! His tail shortened and he looked much more like a frog.
About a week or so later, he was fully frog. His tail was gone and he no longer resembled a tadpole at all. We tried feeding him the pellets he had been eating as a tadpole but unfortunately, he didn't go for them. We tried to feed him a few worms but he didn't like that either. So, in the interest of keeping him healthy, the boys decided we should let him go in the pond. Hopefully he didn't just become part of the food chain but who knows. The boys loved watching him hop away into the marsh though and they felt good that they helped him grow up and were able to set him free. I think it was a great lesson and so fun to watch! Maybe they'll start asking for another pet soon!
