First Taste of Solids

It's the moment you've all been waiting for:  Eliel has finally started to eat solids!  We started this yummy journey today at lunch with avocados.  I know a lot of you are going to ask, why avocados and not cereal.  Well, the 'latest thinking' is that fruits and vegetables are much easier for babies to digest than cereals.  Plus, our pediatrician warned us not to give rice cereal because of the recent scare of arsenic being in the rice.  So, we decided to start with something nice and mushy.  The choice was between avocados and bananas.  Both do not need to be cooked, both have great health benefits and neither one is too sweet.  Many people say that if you give something that is too sweet first, babies may not take to vegetables then.  We went with avocados because they are full of good, yummy fats which will hopefully keep our little man fuller longer.  We started with just a little bit today and will be increasing it more each day.  We will also be eating avocados for about 4-5 days before switching to a different type of food, probably bananas.  We will likely video tape that for you too!

This video is a little but long so please don't feel like you have to watch the whole thing.  We won't know if you do or not anyway! :) Bon Appetit!
