Nature Center

The weather this weekend was just too perfect to pass up and so I suggested to Adam that was do something outside. I've been wanting to take E over to the nature center near our house all summer but just haven't had the time to get there.  So, I suggested we go there on Saturday.  It's only a fifteen minute drive from our house and totally worth it.  It's a little slice of nature right in the middle of the city!

River Trails Nature Center isn't very big but it's got plenty to do for kids.  In addition to the few miles of hiking paths, they also have a wonderful visitors center and a handful of native animals.  Eliel loved walking amongst the leaves and watching the birds.  Plus, as a bonus, it's right near a tiny airport so every few minutes, a plane would fly overhead.  It was like heaven for Eliel!

The animals they have include a coyote, fox, skunk, owls and a red-tailed hawk.  Most (if not all) of the animals are there because they were injured in some way and cannot survive in the wild on their own.
Inside the visitors center, they also had turtles, snakes, fish, a squirrel and a beehive.  We spend about an hour in there!  They also just recently renovated it and have a whole section for kids.  Eliel was a big young for it but I'm sure it will come in handy in the winter when it's too cold to do anything outside!

If you haven't been to this nature center, you should check it out!
